We are always looking for talented individuals to join us. From the very start, Square One Law has attracted experienced, ambitious lawyers who want to be part of developing fast moving, independent firm.
Our forward thinking, entrepreneurial model has attracted a great team of lawyers and support team members and created a highly motivated team. Our partners have years of experience with major law firms, advising UK and international businesses and many have also worked in house. Our people are driven, have real enthusiasm for their clients’ projects and get fully involved.
Based in Newcastle, Leeds and Darlington, we are well placed to form partnerships with businesses across the northern region. Our brand is recognised by our clients and business partners as a quality offering in the highly competitive, legal marketplace
Clients want responsive professional advisers who think like they do, share the same passion in their business and form a connection so they become an extension of their team.
Our people are our key asset – we want them to develop and thrive. We have a challenging, exciting yet supportive culture and will actively work with you to help you grow. At Square One Law we have developed our brand and culture by aligning our external and internal messaging, so everyone understands how important their role is to the success of the whole team. Our training has been developed to build a high performing team and a collaborative culture. You work closely with partners, develop your legal skills and learn how to build strong client relationships and your own business network.
Quotes from our people
“It’s more collaborative here, supportive. You can make progress here.”
“We’re all looking for a common goal. There’s shared credit, not look what I’ve done.”
“Growth brings more interesting work, bigger deals and feeds into our reputation. It creates possibilities for everyone, not just the lawyers.”
Equality and Diversity
We value the individual. Everyone can bring something different to a business – different skills, different perspectives and different experiences. We want to create a truly diverse and inclusive business that plays to strengths and celebrates differences and has a collaborative ethos where because of, not in spite of, our differences we operate as one cohesive team.
Every two years we collect and publish voluntary information collected from our lawyers and support staff to measure equality and diversity within our business. We submit this information to the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority (SRA) for monitoring purposes, and as part of our commitment to the regulator. Please click here to view our report for 2021.

There are now a variety of routes to qualify as a lawyer. We need ambitious people with drive who have a proven track record of a good academic background, a passion to work in a commercial firm, combined with outstanding people skills and evidence of successful team working.
To create a new legal brand in today’s competitive legal sector we have literally gone back to square one and the feedback from clients made it clear that they wanted experienced lawyers who have a real understanding of their business and market sector and not be delegated to inexperienced members of a larger team. The firm is completely client focused and our leaner model means we have well balanced teams and junior lawyers and trainees work very closely with senior lawyers and therefore have a great deal of client contact and become fully involved with their team. We have an enviable client base, so the legal projects are challenging and very interesting.
We offer two training contracts to exceptional candidates each year.
Our in-house training and workshops are collaborative and focus on building teamwork as well as continuously improving the skills and commercial awareness of our people. It will develop your legal skills, your commerciality and teach you how to build strong client relationships and develop your own business network.
Most of our trainees have had work experience or been a paralegal with us so if you are interested in finding out more about us, please contact Rachel Ford.
