Help for businesses to support Ukrainian refugees to secure visas to the UK
Our employment team are hosting some free explainer sessions to advise UK businesses how they can support Ukrainian refugees secure visas to the UK.
The government provides a number of routes for visa applications, including a family scheme and an emerging sponsorship scheme. However, considerable levels of bureaucracy are proving to be severely hampering applications.
Currently, the family scheme requires refugees to have a family connection, either immediate or through extended relatives. The new scheme would allow other individuals, businesses or local authorities to sponsor a Ukrainian national into the UK.
Through our immigration law specialist, we are helping HR departments negotiate the maze of bureaucracy and we’re now offering this advice to other businesses through our free explainer sessions.
Taking place on 22nd and 23rd March, the online sessions will detail how the different schemes can be accessed, eligibility requirements and the information applicants will need.
JP van Zyl, Head of Employment at Square One Law, said: “This is a desperate time for Ukrainians and the bureaucracy that’s tying up the visa process is causing tremendous heartache and anxiety to relatives in the UK.
“Our team is working closely with clients to help them understand how they can support employees with Ukrainian relatives trying to apply for a visa and also the emerging sponsorship scheme, which has the potential to enable businesses, individuals and local authorities to make a significant contribution to helping refugees come to the UK.
“We are keen to share our expertise beyond our client base to help businesses who have Ukrainian nationals working for them or want to sponsor a refugee, which is why we are holding these two free explainer sessions.”
